Immunohematology is a branch of hematology that studies the antigen-antibody reactions and analogous phenomena as they relate to pathogenesis and clinical manifestations of blood disorders. (Eg: Cross matching, immunophenotyping etc.)

Current Focus

Minimal Residual Disease (MRD) in Multiple Myeloma

MRD monitoring has emerged in recent years as one of the most relevant prognostic factors in multiple myeloma. Our lab aims to study the MRD in multiple myeloma using multiparameter flow cytometry. The multidimensional approach of current flowcytometry immunophenotyping not only allows detection of clonal heterogeneity in a good percentage of newly diagnosed patients, but also makes it possible to monitor all the different phenotypic subclones throughout a patients treatment, thereby assessing potential clonal selection upon therapy.
